Year end summation

Okay so this blog has been a complete fail as you may have noticed... This is completely my fault. It's tough attempting to maintin a blog whilst living a full university life and studying (although there wasn't much of that going on... =P) Anywho I will attempt to at the very least update once a week from now til the end of school... hoping it won't become too hectic and that I'll abandon again.
So here's the new post...

Last week (being this passing friday) I had my final second round of midterms completed. Oh what a rush and relief that is. Honestly never leave studying to the last minute. I attempt to tell myself time and time again but it seems pretty hopeless. It's deffinitely one of those things that you say you won't do when new years rolls around and you're making that list of resolutions, but you never actually do it. Well it shall be my attempt to start on the essay assignment I have due on the 9th of April. It's the writing assignment for my critical thinking course. It's suppose to be an essay but really it's just a paper pointing out all the flaws and or concrete-ness of the article we're reading.
Anywho, so I guess I should go actually do the assignment I was just speaking of...

First Week Mayhem

So I'm curretly sitting in my computer class typing this blog, something I don't suggest any of you do, and I'm updating this blog because I haven't done that in a while. I apologize for that. My first week of university life has been pretty intersting. I've made some new friends since none of the friends I had during highschool are in my program.
I honestly believe that the first week was the easiest week to make friends because no one knew anyone. I just randomly approached people and said hi and got to know them. Oh the simplicity of it all. I suggest all of you do the same. No reason to be shy.
As for my classes. Yeah the sad reality is I already have assignments. Read this many chapters and do this assignments, etc. Yeah kinda bad.
University is deffinitely quicker pace than high school. That's something you must be ready for. Anywho this is just a quick update. I should prolly get back to focusing on my lecture...

Orientation! A place to get to know people!

Hey all, sorry it's been a while since I've posted anything, I've just been swamped with things to do, people to see, and money to make. This post will be about the pre-orientation events that I attended at my wonderful Uni.
Basically I'm going to outline out why it is sooo incredibly fun to attend these wacky events.
Firstly find out what's going on in your schools! what's happening, what are you interested in participating in, pick the ones you really want to go to, or go to all of them if you can. This is a great way to meet new people before everyone starts to solidify into their groups and programs.
Personally when I went to my events I just talked to new people all the time. I attempted to make at least one new friend at each event. Now I know around 8 new people from a wide range of programs within my university, people I probably wouldn't have met had I just gone to class.
Secondly these events were made so that you can get to know your schools better before you start your classes. This will really help save you time and embarrassment the first week, because you'll know where most of your classes are, or at least which building they're in.
Third orientation is one of those things that is guaranteed to be a topic of interest the first few weeks that school starts. This give you the oppourtunity to have something to talk to people about and yet again meet new people, including that cute guy you have your eye on hehe.
All in all, If you want to meet new people this is the way to do it. Go to some orientation events and get out there! You're in university now, it's time to shed your shell and show people the new you!

Where's My Class and Who Are These People?

Alrighty so this past week I've been trying to find a job. Like I said it's a pretty big part of what I need for university. But this post is not going to be about money issues again, but rather it's going to be about getting to know your school.
My university has set up a bunch of "pre-orientation" events for the students to get to know their school. Basically I've signed up for about a million of them and cannot wait to get going. I find these will be a very fun way to
A. Get to know my school
B. Meet some really interesting people.
These are the kinds of events where you can get to know people before everyone starts forming their I guess "cliques" through their majors. Although I also heard that their is a much lower "clique"-ness in university. Anyways, this will allow you to meet a broad range of people and create a familiar face to look for on the first day of school
I also suggest going and taking a tour of your school (if that's possible for you), because this offers you a head start on not getting lost. When you get your schedules (which I have not) go and visit your school and locate where each of your classes will be. Why not be prepared right?

Money, money, money!

As you all know university is one expensive ride, and for most of us we just don't have that amount of money magically come to us. For most people, their parents have been saving up for their education, BUT mine weren't that smart. I don't blame them, really I don't! They were foreigners who came to a new country and didn't know what was going on. Also at that time there was a very high uncertainty that I would even end up going to university, so they didn't open up a savings account for me. So I have to rely on government financial aid.

So basically the government judges the amount of money they think you'll need and loan it to you at a lower intrest rate than those of the banks. I'm suppose to take my contract that they sent me to my university's financial office by mid july. Now although I think it's great to take money from the government (it is our tax dollars by the way!), do you want to know what I think is even better it is taking money and NOT having to pay it back. Yup that's right, there are actually people out there who will give you money for your education! AND I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about... that's right! SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!

yeah... you've probably heard this a million times now from most of the websites you've been on, but it's true. My advice though is too keep your marks up in your last year becausse that will make your application more likely to win and also opens up a lot more scholarship choices. In fact most schools give you money in the form of entrance scholarships if you have a high enough average. So go out there my fellow students and get that money, because after all you deserve it! Here are two really good websites that will find you scholarships (and they're totally free!!!): www.scholarshipscanada.com & www.studentawards.com .

Start It Up

Hey all, I must admit that this blog idea came from another person, well actually a few people. I've been inspired to blog about my experience of going to university, because honestly it is a very daunting task. For those of you who have gone through it I commend you, for those of you going through it I'm with you, and for those who are going to go through it I hope my blogs help to ease your journey a bit.
Let me introduce myself, my name is Thi, I'm going to be turning 18 in July and I'm going to be going to university come Septemeber. I'm entering into a program called Medical Physics, to simplify it's a fancy name for a program that does research on diseases like cancer. And I'm scared crapless of what the experience of university is going to bring. None of my friends will be attending the same university but the majority will be in the same city as me.
I've already gone and applied for government financial aid and have recieved the paperwork that I need to sign and send back. I will be doing that sometime this week.
This will be it for my very first composition on this blog. I will be coming back to write about tips on applying to unversity and what I've read up til now about the essentials for university and etc. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll respond in my next write up, if I don't know the answer I will attempt to find out.
